How To Moisturize High Porosity Hair

Posted by adele a on

High porosity hair refers to hair that has a porous cuticle, which means that it easily absorbs and loses moisture. This can lead to dryness, frizziness, and breakage. Some common causes of high porosity hair include chemical treatments, heat styling, and damage from the environment.

To care for high porosity hair, it is important to focus on moisture retention. This can be done by using deep conditioning treatments, avoiding heat styling, and using products specifically formulated for high porosity hair.

To identify if you have high porosity hair, you can do a simple test by taking a strand of hair from your head and placing it in a bowl of water. If the strand floats, it is likely that your hair is low porosity and if it sinks, it is likely that your hair is high porosity.

To moisturize high porosity, damaged, curly hair, you can try the following:

  1. Use a deep conditioning treatment regularly to help repair and strengthen the hair.

  2. Use a leave-in conditioner to help seal in moisture. Look for one that contains natural oils such as coconut, olive, or avocado oil.

  3. Avoid using heat styling tools such as flat irons or blow dryers on your hair as much as possible to reduce further damage.

  4. Use a wide-toothed comb or your fingers to detangle your hair when it is wet and has conditioner in it.

  5. Use a hair oil or serum to seal in moisture and protect your hair from the elements.

  6. Avoid using products that contain sulfates, parabens, and alcohol, which can dry out and damage your hair.

  7. Trim your hair regularly to remove damaged ends.

  8. Lastly, be gentle with your hair, avoid tight hairstyles and protect it with silk or satin scarf at night.
