Hair trimming....When and how?!

Why Should I trim and how often??

This is an age old question in the natural hair world!  At the risk of sounding like a hippie... I actually trim with the moon cycles.  I go by the farmers almanac. FYI the dates this month are June
1st, 23rd, 24th, 28th and 29th.

Anyhoo here's the mainstream way of doing things!

Why do we trim our ends?  The ends are the oldest part of the hair so they tend to get funky: split ends or dry ends etc.  The damage at the ends can continue up and then you will have more of a problem instead of just clipping those ends.  You need to cut it!

When should we trim?

-If you use alot of heat most likely your ends are in need.  Heat can damage cuticle in general and the ends are already vulnerable.

-If your hair is always touching your clothing.  Hair can get damaged and broken from hitting clothing constantly.  Wear it up more than down to avoid this.

-You haven't been sealing and moisturizing your ends much.  Most likely they are dry and damaged.

_ Your ends look very much thinner than the rest of your hair.  You can see through your ends.

- If you have high porosity hair.  Your hair is dryness prone so you probably should trim when ends start looking very dry

How often?

Depending on texture can be 5-12 weeks.  5 being for thin hair, 12 for very curly/kinky textures.  If you're in between the two you're looking at about 6-8 weeks.

Here's a nice video showing how to!

Happy trimming!
